Dadaists. The anti art movement

The Dada movement was birthed out of the dislike of the current art forms of the time. This was not a movement but more of a revolt against the norms of the time. One of the earliest Dadaists is considered to be Duchamp who is considered the found father of Pop Art. He is also famous for inventing the Ready-made which is art that is made up of items that already exist in the world and combining them together to create something else.

The art that Duchamp wanted to make art that was intellectual art meaning that he wanted the art to make you think. He thought that if art is beautiful it didn’t make you think and he said that there was no point in that.

One of the first big things that Duchamp made what he called ‘ bicycle wheel’ which is when he attached a bike wheel to a stool. He made three of them but lost 2 of them. He encouraged people to touch the art which at the time was a thing people didn’t so he did this to change the exception of art.
